| Definition of Regeneration According to the Proceedings of the World Workshop in Clinical Periodontics (1996), periodontal regeneration is the formation of new bone, new cementum and new periodontal ligament to form a functional attachment apparatus on a previously pathologically exposed tooth root. This has long been the goal of periodontal treatment, although until now, it was commonly considered challenging and highly unpredictable by most clinicians. Hierarchy of Evidence6 In order to prove that a product or procedure results in true periodontal regeneration, a hierarchy of evidence has been established. In accordance with this hierarchy, PDGF has demonstrated effectiveness at all levels, providing clinicians with the most extensive evidence for true periodontal regeneration. |
