Furcation Defects (Class I-II*)		Case by Dr. James Mellonig

A circumferential defect with furcation involvement is noted around mandibular left second molar	Following debridement, defect is grafted with Bio-Oss®	Bio-Gide® barrier membrane is adapted to the surgical site	6 month reentry reveals resolution of the furcation defect. This tissue is resistant to probing.

*Class I and II furcation defects are regarded as treatable. However, conditions for eliminating the bacterial infection are more difficult. Class III furcations are regarded as non-treatable.
